Committee Descriptions: The Alamo Kiwanis Club

Membership

This committee is responsible for keeping the club up to date on existing membership, retention, as well as promoting the club to gain new members. The committee will make recommendations to the board on new applications as well as resignations. The committee will help in the onboarding of new membership and be the point of contact to help all new and existing members thrive in the club.

Programs

This committee arranges for speakers at all our lunch meetings. The committee strives to obtain diverse speakers that they believe will be interesting to our current membership and help attract new members. If you know interesting people and would like them to speak at our lunches, this committee is for you.

Entertainment

This committee is exactly what you would expect, to keep the club fun. Like to organize socials and parties? Are balloons and ribbons a passion? The Entertainment committee could be for you!

Interclub

The Interclub Committee arranges for members to attend the monthly District meeting and from time to time to attend meetings and fundraisers of other Kiwanis clubs. This helps our club be more visible to other clubs and to learn from those clubs.

Sponsorship and Grants

This committee contacts potential individuals, companies and foundations and solicit their sponsorships for our fundraising events. These sponsorship dollars raised each year allow us to donate more funds to our local children’s charities. If you have a knack for reaching out to people, and kindly asking them to support our mission, this is your opportunity to serve.

Service Leadership Program

The Service Leadership Committee is responsible for supporting the Key Clubs in High schools and Circle K clubs in colleges. We support them to be a spinoff of Kiwanis by developing service, leadership and guidance in their fund-raising efforts. We award two $1,500 Scholarships to Graduating Seniors and International awards a Sophomore Scholarship. We encourage our Key Clubs to go to the Kiwanis Convention as well. Currently we support three Key Clubs: Alamo Heights HS, Reagan HS, Johnson HS and currently we are working on onboarding O’Connor HS in Helotes. No Colleges are supported currently.

This is an extremely important component of the AKC. We are helping to build the leaders of tomorrow, and this committee could use a lot of help as it has a lot of area to cover. It is more oversight so do not feel you are underqualified, and we will help you learn. Please consider this committee as part of your AKC adventure.

 Youth Services

This Committee oversees and makes recommendations to the board in response to groups that have requested funding from the AKCC for the current year. The committee consists of the chairs of Fiesta Noche Del Rio, Clays for Kids and K-Four Kids and anyone else that has a heart for vetting and awarding our applicants.

Fiesta Noche Del Rio
